New Year Day routine in 2025

Every year on my New Year’s Day, I drive my car from my hometown of Gunma to Osaka, where I live for work. It is about 600km (375 miles) by car. First thing in the morning, I go to the temple for greeting.This New Year’s Day was very sunny.It’s a blue sky like CG. Mt. Akagi

Mount Akagi is a mountain in Gunma Prefecture.When foreigners think of Japan, it is Mt. Fuji, but Mt. Akagi is a famous mountain like Mt. Fuji. The reason why it is famous is that Mt. Akagi is the mountain that has been the setting for many famous stories.During the time of the Tokugawa shogun, there was a dark hero who defied the shogun based on Mt. Akagi. OBON 2024

Obon is an annual event in Japan that honors the spirits of ancestors.In my region, on August 13, I go to the temple to which my family belongs to say hello and bring the spirits of my ancestors home from the graves.In some areas, it is July. It is said that in areas where sericulture was popular, July was busy, so it became August.My hometown of Gunma Prefecture is an area where sericulture is thriving, so Obon is in August.My family’s grave is in a building on the temple grounds.It is a building that was built in my grandfather’s generation (more…)

New Year Day’s routine

On New Year’s Day, I first go to the temple in hometown at 9:00 to greet the New Year.In Japan, temples managed the family register before Westernization, so even now, in rural areas, temples = local communities.After the greeting, I drove 600 km (375 mile) from my hometown of Isesaki City in Gunma Prefecture to Osaka City, where I currently live.It runs on the highway, but there is a route on the mountain side and a route on the sea side.Snow is also removed on the highway on the mountain side, so you can run during the day even if (more…)
