Now, there are many huge image of Buddha or Goddess of Mercy in Japan.   This Takasaki Byakui dai Kannon is origin of follower huge images.

View from top level.  Direction is Tokyo. The plain from Takasaki city to Tokyo is called as "Kantou Heiya". This is  most large plain in Japan.  

 

Inside of Takasaki Byakui dai Kannon, there are step and visitor can go up to her shoulder level.

Basically, Buddha is men style and Kannon is woman style,  but, they have no distinction of sex.
