Tsuten-kaku

The symbol of glorious Osaka city and people

<Japanese>

"Tsuten" means through until heaven, Kaku means a palace.

From east sideFrom shopping district

From south side (clock face)

Design is simple and has nice sharp edges and directory commercial texts, but it has something solemn atmosphere.  I feel the symbol of Osakais this!, Osaka castle isn’t! in front of this solemn atmosphere.

Tsuten-Kaku has wonderful harmony with its around.  Actually, Tsuten-kaku is a private tower of around shopping district stores (Shin-Sekai:"New world" town). They paid a cost in 1956 and Tsuten-kaku was builded up. Other towers in Japan are builded by public office, so Tsuten-kaku is “The symbol of glorious Osaka city and people”.

A kindly gentlman in shopping district took this picture for us.

Biriken who is God and born in America is enshrined in observatory room in Tsuten-kaku. They said that you can achieve your wish by scratching his sole of foot.

Everybody can scratch his sole freely.
